The body of art

The Body of Art, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, presents the works of more than one hundred and twenty prestigious international artists . The conceptual idea behind the exhibition started out from a collaboration between Achille Bonito Oliva and the celebrated artist and film director Peter Greenaway. The exhibition space is the result of the collaboration between the visionary designer Denis Santachiara and the architect Peter Bottazzi. In the old Convento del Carmen each one of the artists will offer his own particular representation of the different knots tying together the body and sin with elements of vices, passions and virtues.

Similarly to the rest of the biennial, the exhibition is based on a challenge: the works of the artists are not individually abandoned, rather they are physically and philosophically connected through emotions and ideas.

The webart section is curated by kwArt.

  The Carmen convent

The emblematic 'Convento del Carmen', in the centre of Valencia, was built in the fourteenth century. Its two cloisters, one Gothic, the other Renaissance, are highly noteworthy. The latter can be reached through the museum, situated in the Gothic chapel, and the reformed gallery with its enormous skylights. It houses the IVAM exhibitions, devoted to fostering young talent in contemporary art.
